Hans Gruenig has pursued complementary courses of consciousness studies both inside and outside of academia. He researched integral approaches to spirituality at the California Institute of Integral Studies while completing an M.A. in Philosophy, Cosmology and Consciousness -- and subsequently researched Heidegger, Nonduality and Personal Transformation while pursuing a Ph.D. in Philosophy at Tulane University. He has studied Philosophy, Buddhism, Meditation, and Yoga in North America, Europe, and India and has studied with insightful and inspiring teachers of a variety of transformative practices. Hans has attended intensive teacher/facilitator trainings in:
* Buddhist Meditation and Mind Training with Bhante Gunaratana, Ph.D.
* Big Mind / Big Heart Process (Zen Voice Dialogue) with Genpo Roshi
* The Work (Questioning Stressful Thoughts) with Byron Katie
* Non-Violent Communication with founder Marshall Rosenberg, Ph.D.
Hans has also attended intensive retreats in:
* Insight Meditation with Shinzen, Goenka, Jumnien, Yogavacara Rahula, etc.
* Nondual Awareness Recognition with Tsoknyi Rinpoche, Adyashanti, Richard Miller
* Integral Life Practice with Ken Wilber and the ILP staff
Over the past decade, Hans has been developing a synthesis of practices designed to integrate physical, psychological, and spiritual approaches to well being. He has facilitated workshops on stress reduction, meditation and yoga, compassionate communication, and personal growth. He has founded a meditation center, taught courses for Tulane Universitys department of philosophy (including Philosophies of the Self, Buddhism, and Meditation) and also teaches meditation courses and workshops at Wild Lotus Yoga.
